1993 - Bill Comrie buys the BC Lions

1993 - Canadian football - Bill Comrie owner of The Brick furniture store chain purchases the BC Lions from the league. The BC Lions started in 1954 and carry the same colours as the Vancouver Meralomas Rugby Club.  The Lions hired Eric Tillman as GM and he in turn hired Dave Ritchie as head coach.

Christina Lake BC recreation paradise

Christina Lake is a lake located along the Crowsnest Highway in the south-central area of British Columbia known as Boundary Country, which separates the Okanagan region from the West Kootenays.  It was named after a Metis woman named Christina McDonald, the daughter of the Hudson's Bay Company chief factor Angus McDonald of Fort Colville.

The Trans Canada Trail, Dewdney Trail and the Kettle Valley Railway Trail all merge at the lake, attracting visitors to the area from all over. The region is frequented by hikers and bikers along the local trails in the lake area.

History buffs and adrenaline junkies alike will find plenty to do in Cranbrook. Travel back in time on a heritage walking tour and explore the town's railway past. Don't miss a visit to the local ghost town Fort Steele.

A visit to Cranbrook starts with a journey back in time. Climb aboard the vintage railcars of the Trans Canada Limited at the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel on Van Horne Street South, and see just how luxurious train travel could be in the early part of the 20th century. Not far from the museum, explore the historic Baker Hill district with the self-guided Cranbrook Heritage Walking Tour, available from the Visitor Centre on Cranbrook Street North.

Cranbrook British Columbia

Cranbrook, British Columbia is a city in southeast British Columbia, located on the west side of the Kootenay River at its confluence with the St. Mary's River, It is the largest urban centre in the region known as the East Kootenay. As of 2011, Cranbrook's population is 19,364.


Environment Canada reports Cranbrook as having the most sunshine hours of any BC city at approximately 2228.6 hours annually. Because of that it is a fairly dry city throughout the year, and when precipitation does fall a good percentage of it will be in the form of snow.

Castlegar British Columbia

Castlegar is the second largest city in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. It is located within the Selkirk Mountains at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers. It is a regional trade and transportation centre, with a local economy fueled by forestry, mining and tourism. It is home to Selkirk College, a regional airport, a pulp mill, and several small sawmills.

Nelson British Columbia

Cultural activities abound in Nelson. Set in the natural beauty of the Selkirks, many artists and writers make Nelson their home. 1972 Toronto Maple Leafs Harold Ballard convicted of fraud

1972 - Harold Ballard, President of Maple Leaf Gardens, convicted of 47 charges of fraud, tax evasion and theft of $205,000 from the Gardens to pay for personal expenses; sentenced to three years in Kingston Penitentiary on Oct. 20.

The Comox Valley Vancouver Island British Columbia

Ucluelet - Vancouver Island British Columbia

Ucluelet is located at the northern edge of Barkley Sound, 288 kilometres northwest of the British Columbia provincial capital, Victoria, on the outer west coast of Vancouver Island.

The Wild Pacific Trail begins near the mouth of Ucluelet Inlet at Amphitrite Point Lighthouse and travels north along the open Pacific coastline through Big Beach Park to the bike path just outside of Ucluelet. The final section will extend the trail to Halfmoon Bay in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
The trail is accessible to all ages and abilities, even wheel chairs in certain areas. No bikes, horses or motorized vehicles are permitted on the park’s beaches or trails. The hiking trails are designed to let visitors experience the shoreline while preventing damage to the fragile environment.
Various marine tours are available including sea kayaking, whale and wildlife watching
There has been an on-going interest in sport fishing out of Ucluelet and there are many chartered sports fishing options in town.
Surfing has become a popular activity among tourists and locals alike. In the summer months, surfers of all levels of experience and ability flock to the surf breaking along Florencia Bay, Wickaninnish Beach and Long Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

Tofino BC What to see and do !!

Every March, the migration of thousands of grey whales is celebrated with the Pacific Rim Whale Festival. The last weekend of April is the Tofino Shorebird Festival. The first week-end of June brings the Tofino Food and Wine Festival, featuring British Columbia wines and showcasing the creations of Tofino chefs. The end of August brings the Tofino Lantern Festival (voted Tofino's most popular event by Tofino Time Magazine), and mid-September brings "Art in the Gardens," a two-day local arts and music festival.  The O'Neill Coldwater Surf Classic was held October 25–31, the first professional ASP surf event ever held in Canada. The highlight of November is the Clayoquot Oyster Festival, which hosts the annual and popular Oyster Gala, an evening of local chefs competing for the favorite oyster creation, slurping contests, British Columbia wines and beers, and live music.

Tofino BC - Yes you can surf in British Columbia

1907 Billy Miner escapes New West prison


1907 - Billy Miner the Gentleman Bandit, escapes from penitentiary and flees to the US, where he continues his bank robbing career until his death in a Georgia prison; he was jailed for 25 years for his part in a bungled CPR train robbery in Kamloops in 1906; the film, The Grey Fox, is based on his exploits.

Happy Birthday Terry Fox a truly great Canadian

Happy Birthday Terry Fox (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981 One of the great Canadian's.  A humanitarian, athlete, and cancer research activist his legacy can be found at TerryFox.org  At the age of 22 and with one prosthetic leg he embarked on a cross Canada marathon to raise money and awareness for cancer research.  He unfortunately did not complete but his legacy has lived on and each year kids embark on the Terry Fox run.
